What are Domains?
For the new or to be future webmasters, you may have questions about domains. First domains are the things you see in your browser address bar ending in a .com, .net, .org, .info, .gov, or other extensions. I will list as many as I can at the end of this post. Domains are needed to host your websites otherwise, how will your friends know where your website is or how to get there? They won’t know. Domains can be registered at domain registrars for around $5-$30 each for a year depending on where you buy them. Network Solutions is a very big and well known registrar that charges a lot more because of their features.
If you are new to this I would suggest you use GoDaddy or NameCheap as your registrars. They are much cheaper and to me better than those big expensive companies. If you will use namecheap to register your domains, they have a coupon available almost every day, usually lasts a month, and they give you a free Whois Guard when you purchase or transfer your domain. I will explain what whois guard is in another post at another time. If you will use namecheap use the following code and get almost a dollar off, I know its not much but its a $1 off $9 and it’ll help you out later. Use the following code without the quotation marks “BOTTLEROCKET” - if it does not work let me know.
As for the domain extensions, below is a list of the ones I can state so far, but come back for more information on domains, registrars, whoisguard, and what domains will work for you.
